Vertical Aerospace Partners with Astronics for Valo Aircraft Power Distribution System

Vertical Aerospace has announced a long-term agreement with Astronics Corporation to supply the low-voltage power distribution system for its Valo electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Astronics will provide the power conversion and distribution hardware for critical aircraft systems, converting high-voltage power into low-voltage power used by avionics and flight controls. This partnership strengthens Vertical's supplier ecosystem for Valo's key aircraft systems, including leading suppliers like Honeywell and Aciturri. The agreement marks a significant step as Vertical progresses towards certification and commercial production.
Astronics has been supporting Vertical throughout the prototype phase of aircraft development, with its hardware already integrated into Vertical's piloted flight test aircraft. The company's purpose-built eVTOL electrical power solutions and aerospace experience make it an ideal supplier for Valo. This collaboration is crucial as Vertical advances towards certification and commercial production, ensuring a reliable and efficient power distribution system for the aircraft.
Stuart Simpson, CEO of Vertical Aerospace, emphasized the importance of a world-class supplier ecosystem in building a certifiable aircraft. Astronics' expertise in aircraft electrical power systems and its successful integration into Vertical's flight test program highlight the value of this partnership. The agreement with Astronics is a significant milestone in maturing Valo's design, strengthening the supply chain, and moving closer to certification and commercial production.
Jon Neal, President of Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems, expressed pride in working with Vertical Aerospace as the supplier of the power distribution system for the Valo aircraft. Astronics' CorePower® system is purpose-built for eVTOL applications, providing reliable power to flight-critical systems. The collaboration between Astronics and Vertical Aerospace aims to support Valo's entry into service and ensure compliance with aerospace certification standards.
The announcement of the agreement with Astronics comes as Vertical Aerospace progresses towards Critical Design Review (CDR), a crucial step in establishing the certifiable design baseline for the Valo aircraft. This progress signifies Vertical's commitment to advancing the Valo program and achieving certification-conforming aircraft production and testing. The collaboration with Astronics underscores Vertical's dedication to developing a safe, efficient, and innovative electric aviation solution with Valo.
