2026 AAFCA TV Honors: Celebrating Excellence in Television Storytelling
The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has recently revealed the winners of the eighth annual AAFCA TV Honors. Among the standout recipients are ABC’s Abbott Elementary, recognized for best ensemble and best writing. FX’s Love Story secured awards for best limited series and best directing (drama) by Crystle Roberson Dorsey. Hulu’s Paradise was named best drama, with lead Sterling K. Brown honored as best actor, while Shrinking claimed the best comedy title.
According to AAFCA president and co-founder Gil Robertson, the best television goes beyond mere entertainment, sparking conversations and shedding light on the world beyond our immediate surroundings. This year’s winners showcase the industry's depth and creative ambition, redefining the possibilities of the medium by telling culturally rich and bold stories that resonate with audiences.
In a bid to acknowledge the evolving entertainment landscape, AAFCA introduced two new categories this year: best reality series and best podcast. The inaugural winners in these categories are OWN’s Love & Marriage: Huntsville and the All the Smoke podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.
The winners of the 2026 AAFCA TV Honors will be honored at an exclusive ceremony on August 8 at City Club Los Angeles. Notable special achievement honorees include Tracy Morgan from The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, who will receive the Flip Wilson Award, and Kathryn Busby, Starz's president of original programming, who will be presented with the TV Vanguard Award. Other honorees include Emmy-nominated screenwriter Celeste Hughey, Sony Pictures senior vice president Lamar Chase, and screenwriter, producer, and director Felicia Pride.
