Anya Taylor-Joy Rumored to Reprise Role as Magik in Marvel Cinematic Universe
Anya Taylor-Joy is rumored to be in talks to reprise her role as Magik in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, is reportedly interested in bringing Taylor-Joy back to play the Russian mutant with teleportation powers and a magical Soulsword. Taylor-Joy previously portrayed the character in the 2020 film The New Mutants, which was the final installment in Fox's X-Men franchise before Disney's acquisition. Despite mixed reviews for the movie, Taylor-Joy's performance as the sharp-tongued sorceress was well-received by many viewers.
Marvel Studios is currently working on an untitled X-Men film for the MCU, with director Jake Schreier at the helm. The project entered pre-production in August 2025, and writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo have been brought on board to revise the script. Feige has hinted that the new X-Men roster will feature a mix of familiar and new characters, promising to bring the franchise's signature interpersonal drama to the MCU. The film is expected to be released after Avengers: Secret Wars.
Since her appearance in The New Mutants, Taylor-Joy has gained recognition for her performances in various projects like The Queen's Gambit, Last Night in Soho, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. If she returns as Magik in the MCU, it would be a rare instance of an actor transitioning from Fox's Marvel films to the MCU. Fans are eagerly anticipating Taylor-Joy's potential return to the superhero genre and her portrayal of the powerful mutant in the upcoming X-Men film.
