David Bowie: On Tour Exhibition Coming to East Yorkshire in 2028

An upcoming exhibition in East Yorkshire will honor the iconic British musician and performer, David Bowie. Titled 'David Bowie: On Tour,' the showcase will feature a collection of 100 artifacts associated with the legendary artist, some of which have never been publicly displayed before. The exhibition is scheduled to be held at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull from February to May 2028.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are items from Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era, including costumes designed by Freddie Burretti and Kansai Yamamoto. Notably, an acoustic guitar used by Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust days will be on display. The exhibition also pays homage to Hull's connection to Bowie, as several key members of his band, the Spiders from Mars, hailed from the Hull area.

The exhibition will be divided into four sections, showcasing a variety of artifacts such as concept art for the cover of Low, Bowie's apartment keys from Berlin, and his first instrument, a Grafton Alto saxophone. Additionally, visitors can expect to see costumes worn by Bowie in iconic music videos like 'Ashes to Ashes' and memorabilia from his film 'The Man Who Fell To Earth.'

Sir Tristram Hunt, the V&A director, expressed excitement about the exhibition, describing it as a significant national partnership that brings Bowie's legacy to audiences across the UK. The exhibition will travel to various venues after its debut at the Victoria and Albert Museum in Dundee, including Showtown in Blackpool, the Bowes Museum in County Durham, and the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

The David Bowie Centre, established at the V&A Storehouse last year, serves as a permanent home for the artist's archive, which is filled with unique artifacts. With five UK number one singles and 11 UK number one albums to his name, David Bowie remains a celebrated figure in the music industry.
