Exploring Innovation and Collaboration: KVIFF Industry Days 2022
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) is not just about film screenings; it also offers a platform for industry professionals to engage in business activities. The Industry Days program has been expanded and enriched to cater to individuals working in film, TV, publishing, and related fields. The program, running from July 5-8, features prominent figures like David Chase, Sharon Horgan, Andrij Parekh, and Jude Law's production company Riff Raff Entertainment, among others.
Hugo Rosák, the head of the KVIFF Film Industry Office, has been instrumental in introducing new elements and enhancing existing events at the festival. The focus is on adapting to industry trends and addressing emerging formats like AI and microdramas. The goal is to encourage producers and directors to explore diverse storytelling methods and improve production value to stay competitive in the evolving landscape of the film industry.
One of the new initiatives this year is the KVIFF Central Stage showcase, highlighting 11 experienced directors and introducing the Book-to-Screen program in collaboration with the Frankfurter Buchmesse. This program aims to provide independent producers access to book titles from the Central and Eastern European region, facilitating discussions and recommendations for future collaborations.
The festival's partnership with the U.S. embassies in Bratislava and Prague and Film Independent has led to the inclusion of the U.S. Department of State's Global Media Makers Residency in the KVIFF Industry Days. This program offers intensive training and support to independent producers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, fostering international collaborations and innovative approaches to film financing and production.
