Harry Styles' Wembley Residency: A Musical Extravaganza with Surprising Covers and Special Guests

Harry Styles has been making waves with his residency shows at Wembley Stadium, where he is currently in the midst of a 12-night run, marking the longest single-artist residency in the venue's history. The dates began on June 12, and Styles has already played seven of the 12 scheduled shows, treating fans to hits like 'Aperture', 'As It Was', 'Watermelon Sugar', and 'Music for a Sushi Restaurant'. During each performance, Styles has been blending Underworld's 'Born Slippy' with the iconic football anthem 'Three Lions' by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds, coinciding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Footage from Styles' gigs, showcasing him encouraging the audience to join in on the chorus of 'Three Lions', caught the attention of comedian and author David Baddiel, the original creator of the song. Baddiel shared the cover online, expressing his approval and humorously offering to waive the royalties for Harry Styles. In addition to his renditions of 'Three Lions' and 'Underworld', Styles has been incorporating snippets of songs like Talking Heads' 'This Must Be The Place', Happy Mondays' 'Step On', and Gorillaz's 'Clint Eastwood' into his performances.

Styles has also paid tribute to the late David Hockney and reminisced about his time in One Direction at one of the shows. Amid the UK's recent heatwave, Wembley Stadium implemented a rule change for the concerts. The singer's upcoming shows are scheduled for today (Wednesday, July 1) and Friday (July 3), with doors opening at 5pm and the performance starting at 8.15pm, followed by a 10.30pm curfew.

Regarding 'Three Lions', Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds announced a 30th-anniversary re-release of the song as England entered another World Cup this summer. The track was originally created to celebrate England hosting the Euro 96 tournament, becoming the only song to top the UK charts four times with the same artist. It achieved this feat in 1996, 1998, and 2018. In the ongoing 2026 World Cup, England has advanced to the knockout stages as group winners, with a match against DR Congo scheduled for today (Wednesday, July 1) at 5pm BST.
