Nick Cannon's Journey with Lupus and Family: Navigating Rumors, Loss, and Love
Nick Cannon has become the subject of a viral conspiracy theory suggesting that he intentionally fathered a large family to have access to compatible bone marrow for his lupus. Rather than dismissing the rumor, Cannon embraced it with humor, sharing the video on Instagram and jokingly acknowledging the speculation.
Diagnosed with lupus in 2012, Cannon has been open about managing the autoimmune disease while navigating his extensive family life. He is the father of 12 children with six different women, including twins with ex-wife Mariah Carey and kids with other partners.
While Cannon treated the conspiracy theory as a joke, it does touch on a real aspect of medical research. In severe cases of lupus that do not respond to traditional treatments, doctors have explored bone marrow stem cell transplants to rebuild the immune system. However, these procedures are high-risk and reserved for extreme cases, not routine treatment.
Cannon has shared his experiences living with lupus and the tough medical decisions his family has faced. In 2021, he and Alyssa Scott tragically lost their five-month-old son, Zen, to brain cancer. Opting for comfort and quality of life over chemotherapy, the couple chose to cherish Zen's remaining time and create lasting memories together.
Honoring Zen's memory, Cannon recently held a beachside celebration of life, commemorating his son's light and the love they shared. Family members dressed in white gathered to pay tribute to Zen, with Cannon expressing his eternal love for his late son and the impact he had on their lives.
