Charlotte Hornets Acquire Dorian Finney-Smith and Three Second-Round Picks in Trade with Houston Rockets

The Charlotte Hornets have made a trade with the Houston Rockets to acquire Dorian Finney-Smith along with three second-round picks. The picks include a 2027 second-round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies, as well as second-round picks from the Rockets in 2028 and 2033. Finney-Smith, who signed a four-year, $53 million deal with the Rockets last year, faced challenges returning from left ankle surgery and had limited guaranteed money beyond the 2026-27 season. In the 2024-25 season, he showed better performance, shooting 41.1 percent on three-pointers, but struggled in the recent season, averaging 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 27 percent on three-pointers. The Rockets decided to make the trade due to a surplus on the wing and rising payroll concerns after re-signing Tari Eason to a lucrative deal. This trade marks a significant move for both teams in the NBA landscape.
