Empowering Sustainable Finance in Africa: Highlights from the CASI Forum in Casablanca

The Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI) recently wrapped up a successful two-day Forum in Casablanca, organized in collaboration with BANK OF AFRICA and supported by the Casablanca Finance City Authority (CFCA). The event brought together around 250 participants from 39 jurisdictions, both in-person and online, to delve into sustainable finance and green technologies aimed at fostering Africa's resilient growth and sustainable future. The forum focused on key themes such as Carbon Markets and Climate Finance Mobilisation, Transition Finance for Emerging Economies, Financing Climate Adaptation and Resilience, and Advancing Sustainability Disclosure.

Dr. Ma Jun, Chairman of CASI, set the tone for the forum by emphasizing the importance of sustainable finance in Africa beyond carbon mitigation, highlighting the need to address access to water, food, and energy as part of a holistic approach to the continent's development. Mr. Brahim Benjelloun-Touimi, Board Member of BANK OF AFRICA, stressed the role of financial institutions as trusted partners in clients' decarbonisation efforts, urging Africa to be a leading contributor to global sustainable finance rather than just a beneficiary.

A significant outcome of the forum was the signing of three strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between CASI and BANK OF AFRICA, The ESG Exchange, and CFCA. These partnerships aim to accelerate green finance initiatives across African markets through joint training, professional certification, research, and knowledge exchange. Additionally, the launch of French-language courses on CASI Academy was announced, expanding capacity-building opportunities for francophone audiences in the region.

Dr. Ma Jun highlighted the potential of AI-powered tools in reducing disclosure costs for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in his closing remarks. The forum concluded with an invitation to participate in the next CASI Sustainability Forum scheduled to take place in Hong Kong in September 2026 during Green Week.
