Jason Newsted's Chophouse Band Covers Bob Seger's 'Turn The Page' on North American Tour

Metallica's former bassist, Jason Newsted, and his Chophouse Band covered Bob Seger's "Turn The Page" as they kicked off their North American tour. The band performed a covers-heavy set at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Massachusetts, including tracks by Neil Young, Blue Öyster Cult, and more. Newsted, who handled vocals and guitar, was part of Metallica when they famously covered "Turn The Page" on their 1998 album, Garage, Inc.
Newsted joined Metallica in 1986 after the death of their previous bassist, Cliff Burton, and stayed with the band until 2001. He played on several studio albums, including the hugely successful "Metallica." Personal and creative tensions led to Newsted's departure from the band, with singer/guitarist James Hetfield expressing concerns about outside musical projects affecting Metallica's strength.
In a recent interview, Newsted revealed that substance addiction played a significant role in his decision to leave Metallica. He also shared that he had undergone treatment for throat cancer in 2025 and had received a clean bill of health from doctors. The Chophouse Band, named after Newsted's recording studio, will continue their tour across North America, supporting Blackberry Smoke on upcoming shows.
As Metallica wraps up their M72 world tour with shows in London, UK, Newsted's live performances offer fans a chance to experience his musical talents outside of his time with the iconic metal band.
