The role of a kicker in football is often overlooked, but having a reliable kicker can make a significant impact on a team's success. A prime example of this was seen in the 2022 College Football Playoff game between Ohio State and Georgia, where a missed field goal cost Ohio State the win. Bob Chesney, the coach of the Bruins, recognizes the importance of having a top kicker on the team, and Mateen Bhaghani is one such player. Bhaghani, who was ranked sixth-best in the country by Chris Sailer Kicking, has had a successful career as a kicker, earning accolades in high school and college. Despite not receiving offers from major Division I teams, Bhaghani's talent was evident as he became the starting kicker for Cal as a walk-on. After a successful freshman season, Bhaghani transferred to UCLA, where he has continued to excel as a reliable kicker. In his sophomore season with the Bruins, Bhaghani made 20 out of 24 field goal attempts, including a game-winning 57-yard kick against Iowa. His performance has earned him recognition in the Big Ten and solidified his position as a key player on the Bruins' roster.
