Arrest of Cayuga County Sheriff's Deputy for Inappropriate Relationship with Minor

A Cayuga County sheriff's deputy from Auburn, Hunter Lawrence, was arrested by New York State Police on July 3rd for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The investigation revealed that Lawrence had multiple sexual encounters with a victim under the age of 17 over an extended period of time. The incidents occurred at different ages of the victim, resulting in multiple charges under New York state law. Lawrence, 25, is employed as a deputy with the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, and there are no allegations that the conduct took place while he was on duty.

State police collaborated with Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck after being informed of the allegations. Lawrence faces charges of two counts of second-degree rape, two counts of third-degree rape, and endangering the welfare of a child. Following his arrest, he was processed and taken to the Cortland County Jail for centralized arraignment. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
