Meet the Candidates: Local Leaders Running for Office in Nogales and Beyond
Maya Donnelly, the current superintendent of the county school system, is seeking re-election after years of experience in various educational roles. Miguel Lopez, a seasoned attorney and former Justice of the Peace, is running for the JP position again. David Ruiz, a retired member of the Arizona Air National Guard and DHS, is running for mayor of Nogales for the first time. Sonia Sanchez, a dedicated teacher involved in community programs, is vying for the county school superintendent position. Adriana Olaiz, a former court interpreter and current JP, is running for re-election. Arturo Garino, a two-time former mayor of Nogales, is seeking re-election. Joe Diaz, an Army veteran and business owner, is running for a return to the Nogales council. The Republican Party candidates for Congressional District 1 and the Democratic Party candidates for the same district are also in the running.
