Murciélago" Anime Adaptation: Exclusive Streaming on HIDIVE in 2027

Yoshimura Kana's manga "Murciélago" is set to be adapted into a TV anime scheduled for release in 2027. HIDIVE has secured exclusive streaming rights for the U.S., Canada, and other select markets. The announcement of the adaptation was made at Anime Expo 2026. Serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan since August 2013, "Murciélago" has garnered over 2.3 million copies in global sales and spans 28 volumes in Japan, with 26 volumes available internationally. HIDIVE, the anime streaming platform by AMC Global Media, will offer the series exclusively to subscribers in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
The story revolves around Kuroko Koumori, a former death-row inmate enlisted to work as an executioner for the state under a unique legal agreement, and her partner Hinako Tozakura, a seemingly ordinary young woman with exceptional driving skills. Together, they confront hidden threats within society. Naoya Takashi, known for works like "Am I Actually the Strongest?" and "Tales of Wedding Rings," serves as the chief director of the project, with Asami Matsuo, recognized for "I'm the Villainess, but I'm Being Doted on by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom" and "Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table," taking on the role of director. Animation duties are shared by Satelight, the studio behind "Drops of God" and "PSYREN," and Staple Entertainment, known for "Tales of Wedding Rings" and "Watari-kun's ****** Is About to Collapse."
Tateishi Sei is responsible for character design, while Akita Masanori and Tsuchiya Yuichi are composing the score. The producers have unveiled a teaser, key visual, and commemorative illustration, along with messages from Yoshimura and the directors. Yoshimura expressed gratitude to readers and collaborators for their support in bringing the project to fruition and encouraged fans to continue following both the manga and the anime. Takashi shared his excitement about participating as chief director for the first time and highlighted his favorite characters from the series, particularly praising Kuroko's character. Matsuo emphasized the engaging voice performances during recording and the visual team's efforts to capture the original work's crime-action essence while staying within broadcast standards.
The collaboration between Takashi and Matsuo, along with their respective studios, marks their second project following the recent "Übel Blatt" adaptation. The team is dedicated to delivering a stylish crime-action anime that stays true to the manga's essence while exploring its erotic and grotesque elements within broadcast boundaries. The anticipation for the "Murciélago" anime adaptation continues to build as the production progresses, promising an exciting viewing experience for fans of the manga and newcomers alike.
