Utah Prosecutors Present Video Evidence in Preliminary Hearing for Charlie Kirk's Killing
Utah prosecutors presented video evidence during a preliminary hearing for the case of Charlie Kirk's killing, showing the suspect, Tyler James Robinson, entering Utah Valley University campus and allegedly firing a fatal shot at the conservative commentator. Robinson, 23, has been charged with aggravated murder in Kirk's death and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against him. The state presented DNA evidence linking Robinson to the weapon and a confession note left for his roommate and romantic partner. Former Utah Valley University police officer Christopher Bagley testified about the panic that ensued after Kirk was shot while speaking to a crowd. Bagley described the scene and his efforts to preserve evidence, including inspecting the rooftop where he believed a sniper had been. The hearing continued with former Utah state bureau of investigation agent David Hull narrating videos that allegedly showed Robinson arriving on campus, changing clothes, and entering a rooftop where the fatal shot was fired. Additional footage showed Robinson's vehicle on campus in the early morning hours of the following day. The prosecution and defense debated over the presentation of videos with highlighted details for better understanding.
The prosecution was set to present a recorded statement from Robinson's roommate and additional law enforcement videos during the hearing, which was expected to last five days. The evidence presented aims to establish that there is enough evidence for the case to move to trial, with Robinson yet to enter a plea in the case.
