Madison Police Crack Down on Nitrous Oxide Use at Phish Concerts: Multiple Arrests and Citations Made

Madison police conducted patrols around the Kohl Center during the first of two Phish concerts and recovered 10 nitrous oxide tanks while making eight arrests or citations. All individuals arrested were from out of state. The incidents involved individuals selling or using nitrous oxide, with one driver arrested for operating while intoxicated and possession with intent to distribute nitrous oxide. Another group from Utah and Colorado was cited for possession of nitrous oxide and psilocybin mushrooms. A third incident involved individuals from South Carolina who were believed to be distributing nitrous oxide and were found with a nitrous oxide tank and a handgun. Police have encountered similar situations outside music venues in the past and continued patrols during the second Phish concert.
