Rediscovered Gems: The Western Front's 'Eureka' Album Featuring Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy

A long-lost album featuring Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy fame is set to be released after 40 years. The album was recorded by the band The Western Front in the early 1980s but never saw the light of day due to a failed record deal with Atlantic Records. The master tapes of the album were stored in the guitarist Dennis O’Donnell’s garage for decades until now.
The Western Front was formed with the collaboration of Scott Gorham and Marty Walsh, who had known each other since high school. The band's sound was influenced by West Coast AOR with a mix of loud guitars and smooth melodies. Despite the promising start, the band's hopes were dashed when the record deal fell through, leading to the shelving of the album.
After years of obscurity, the album caught the attention of Magnus Söderqvist, a Swedish record label owner, who spearheaded the effort to release the album. With the help of Steve Lukather of Toto and Ed Van Zijl of the Mascot Label Group, the album, titled Eureka, is finally set to be unveiled to the public.
The process of restoring the master tapes was a risky endeavor, but it was successful, allowing the album to be brought back to life. The band members are excited about the prospect of the album's release and even entertain the idea of a live performance, although they acknowledge the challenges that may come with it.
Looking ahead, there is a possibility of a second album or an EP featuring additional unreleased material from the band. Scott Gorham reflects on his decision to step away from Thin Lizzy and focus on new projects, acknowledging the legacy of the band and the importance of honoring the memory of his late bandmate, Phil Lynott.
The long-awaited album, Eureka, by The Western Front is scheduled for release on July 10 through Music Theories Recordings/Mascot, marking a significant milestone in the band's journey from obscurity to rediscovery.
