Mexican National Sentenced to 30 Years for Child Exploitation as Soccer Coach in Franklin, Tennessee
An undocumented immigrant who was working as a soccer coach in Franklin, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually exploiting children by using alcohol and drugs. Camilo Campos-Hurtado, a Mexican national, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexual exploitation of minors, possession of child sexual abuse material, and possession of fraudulent immigration and identification documents. Federal prosecutors had requested a 50-year sentence for Campos-Hurtado during the sentencing hearing.
The investigation into Campos-Hurtado began in 2023 when explicit videos were discovered on a cellphone he had left behind at a Franklin business. The footage was reported to the Franklin Police Department, leading to a search of Campos-Hurtado's home and vehicle, where electronic devices containing child sexual abuse material and counterfeit immigration and identification documents were found. Forensic analysis revealed that Campos-Hurtado had been producing child sexual abuse material since at least 2013, although the offenses related to his convictions occurred between 2017 and 2021.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis emphasized the seriousness of Campos-Hurtado's crimes, stating that he had drugged and assaulted children while working as a soccer coach. DHS vowed to remove him from the country if he is ever released, ensuring that he will not harm another child in the United States.
