Tadej Pogačar emerged victorious on stage six of the 2026 Tour de France by conquering the Col du Tourmalet and claiming the Souvenir Jacques Goddet. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider made a solo push 4.1km from the summit of the challenging climb after launching an initial attack with teammate Isaac del Toro. Despite being pursued by Jonas Vingegaard, Pogačar managed to maintain a lead of approximately 30 seconds at the top of the Pyrenean ascent. He further extended his advantage to nearly a minute and a half over a chasing group including Paul Seixas and Florian Lipowitz.
The prestigious award for being the first rider to crest the Tourmalet comes with a €5,000 cash prize and 20 points in the mountains classification. This victory marked Pogačar's first time clinching the prize, despite his previous success in winning three stages featuring the iconic climb. Notably, no rider who has claimed the Souvenir Jacques Goddet has gone on to win the overall race, underscoring the significance of Pogačar's performance on the ascent.
As the Tourmalet loomed 38.5km from the finish line, Pogačar positioned himself favorably to secure his second stage win of the Tour de France.
