Sir Anthony Hopkins has fulfilled his lifelong dream of signing a record deal with Decca Classics, releasing his debut single, Bracken Road, and announcing his upcoming album, Life Is a Dream. The 88-year-old Hollywood actor, known for his Oscar-winning performances in Silence of the Lambs and The Father, has been composing music for over six decades. Bracken Road, inspired by his childhood in Margam, south Wales, reflects his deep connection to the landscapes of his youth. Hopkins expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who brought his compositions to life with profound meaning and emotion.
Hopkins' musical journey began in childhood, playing the piano at the age of four. His album, Life Is a Dream, features compositions that draw on his memories of Port Talbot, visits to his grandfather, and the cinema that sparked his imagination. The track My Fatherland pays tribute to his Welsh roots and humble beginnings, acknowledging his father's influence as a baker. Collaborating with renowned musicians like cellist Gregorio Nieto and pianist Sergio Tiempo, Hopkins created a collection of pieces that reflect his personal experiences and relationships.
Laura Monks, president of Decca Classics, praised Hopkins' talent and classical music knowledge, describing it as a privilege to have him join the label. The album showcases Hopkins' lifelong passion for music and his ability to evoke personal and emotional connections through his compositions. Life Is a Dream is a testament to Hopkins' creative spirit and his dedication to sharing his musical journey with the world.
