Yuuki Kamakura's Redemption: Returning to WTAC 2026 with Determination and Gratitude

Japanese driver Yuuki Kamakura faced disqualification from the Sydney Motorsport Park event last year due to performing burnouts in his Mazda RX-7. This incident raised concerns about his participation in the 2026 event. Following an apology from Kamakura and a thorough review, his entry has been approved by Motorsport Australia and event organisers. To prevent similar incidents, WTAC has introduced new behavioural guidelines for all competitors, with stricter penalties, including disqualification for rule violations.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to return to WTAC, Kamakura offered a sincere apology for his actions that caused trouble and concern last year. He acknowledged the impact of his behavior and expressed his appreciation for the second chance given to him. Despite the viral attention the incident received, Kamakura achieved his goal of a 1m31s lap in the GCG Turbochargers Open Class at Sydney Motorsport Park during his final run, posting a time of 1:31.34s.
Looking ahead to this year's event, Kamakura emphasized the importance of enjoying the time attack experience and sharing it with his team, peers, and rivals. He aims to give his all on the track and demonstrate personal growth through his actions. The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge is scheduled for September 4-5, providing an opportunity for Kamakura to showcase his skills and passion for racing.
