Dutton Ranch Spinoff: Filming Locations, Season 2 Updates, and Cast Changes

Yellowstone's expansion with Dutton Ranch has raised questions about the filming location of the spinoff series. The original show introduced the Dutton family and their Montana ranch, which is actually Chief Joseph Ranch in real life. The ranch has become a popular destination for guests after gaining fame from Yellowstone. Some scenes for the spinoff series, 1883, were filmed at Montana's Yellowstone Film Ranch, featuring a Western town with 26 structures.

Creator Taylor Sheridan, who owns various pieces of land including Texas' Bosque Ranch, has also acquired the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas for the upcoming 6666 spinoff. Production for the Dutton Ranch series took place in Ferris, Texas, where it quickly gained success and was renewed for another season before the first season concluded in July 2026.

Lead actress Kelly Reilly hinted at potential storylines for the second season of the spinoff, expressing excitement about the direction the show will take. The season 1 finale left viewers with cliffhangers surrounding Oreana's pregnancy and Carter's kidnapping, setting the stage for a dramatic continuation in season 2.

Changes are expected for the upcoming season as showrunner Chad Feehan will not be returning, reportedly due to conflicts with series stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly. Despite the shakeup, the cast remains optimistic about the show's future and the creative opportunities that come with new leadership. Dutton Ranch is set to return for its second season in 2027, promising more drama and intrigue for fans of the Yellowstone universe.
