Manchester United Cancels Ederson Deal, Shifts Focus to Andrey Santos Signing
Manchester United have decided to cancel their deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta. The Red Devils had initially agreed to a £35 million deal for the midfielder, but they have now pulled out of the transfer. Instead, they are focusing on finalizing a £50 million package deal for Chelsea's Andrey Santos, who is expected to undergo a medical with the club soon. Ederson, who had already started his medical with United, will not be joining the team after concerns about his fitness arose. The Brazilian midfielder had suffered injuries in the past, including a meniscus injury last summer and ankle problems in previous seasons.
Atalanta, on the other hand, believe that Ederson is fit and are open to reintegrating him into their squad. This setback comes as a blow to Manchester United, who have missed out on other midfield targets like Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, who joined Manchester City and Tottenham for significant fees. With Manuel Ugarte sidelined due to a knee ligament injury sustained during the World Cup, United will need to reassess their options in midfield. Despite the setback with Ederson, the Red Devils are still on track to secure the services of Andrey Santos, as they continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
