Kia Telluride SUV Recall: Fire Risk and Remedies

Kia America has issued a new recall for nearly 463,000 Telluride SUVs due to a potential fire risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall, affecting certain Tellurides from the 2020-2024 model years. The front power seat motor in these vehicles may overheat, leading to a fire hazard. Despite a previous repair attempt by Kia in 2024, reports of fires prompted the automaker to initiate a new recall.

Between October 2024 and April 2026, Kia identified 18 incidents involving seat fires or melting of the seat motor. To address the issue, Kia will install an electronic fuse assembly at no cost to owners. The remedy is expected to be available in early August, with owner notification letters set to be mailed starting Aug. 13. In the meantime, owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the repair is completed.

Owners can check if their vehicle is included in the recall and access more information through the NHTSA website or Kia's recall lookup platform. The recall covers 462,869 model year 2020-2024 Tellurides manufactured between Jan. 9, 2019, and May 29, 2024. Kia America estimates that 1% of vehicles may have the defect.
