Unleashing the Wild: The Story Behind Skid Row's Iconic Anthem 'Youth Gone Wild

Skid Row's iconic hair metal anthem "Youth Gone Wild" may not have been their biggest hit, but it quickly became the band's defining anthem with its powerful riff and rebellious lyrics. The song played a significant role in former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach joining the band after receiving a demo tape from Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee.

Bach was initially unimpressed with the band on the tape but changed his mind after hearing "Youth Gone Wild," which resonated with him. He moved to New Jersey to join Skid Row, consisting of guitarist Dave 'Snake' Sabo, guitarist Scotti Hill, bassist Rachel Bolan, and drummer Rob Affuso. The band quickly secured a record deal and recorded their debut album at Royal Recorders in Wisconsin.

The release of Skid Row's self-titled album in 1989 propelled the band to stardom, with "Youth Gone Wild" as the lead single. The song's success, along with hits like "18 And Life" and "I Remember You," helped the album sell over five million copies. Despite Bach's controversial behavior, the band reached new heights with their second album, "Slave To The Grind," which debuted at No.1 on the US chart.

After releasing one more album, Skid Row parted ways with Bach, but both the band and the singer continue to perform "Youth Gone Wild" in their concerts. The song remains a fan favorite and a powerful anthem that resonates with audiences worldwide, showcasing the band's rebellious spirit and energy on stage.
