Indie Film Box Office Report: Olivia Wilde's 'The Invite' Soars to Top 10, 'Obsession' Hits $250M, and More!

Olivia Wilde's film "The Invite" expanded to 1,610 locations in its third week, grossing over $5.7 million and securing the sixth spot at the domestic box office. The comedy, starring Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, has received critical acclaim with a 96% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 88% audience score. It had a strong opening on seven screens and continues to perform well.

Other indie films making waves this weekend include Angel Studios' "Young Washington" at number five, Focus Features' "Obsession" at number seven, and A24's "Backrooms" at number ten. "Obsession" has crossed $250 million in its ninth week, becoming the fifth highest-grossing horror film domestically.

Sony Pictures Classics' "Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass" debuted to $954k on 1,000 screens, while Magnolia Pictures' "Maddie's Secret" grossed $150k in its fourth week. IFC Films' "Night Nurse" is expected to have a $72k debut on 330 screens.

Two Indian films also performed well, with Shloka Entertainment's "Lenin" opening to $560k in 250 theaters and Shree International's "Dhamaal 4" debuting at $467k in 387 theaters. Additionally, Greenwich Entertainment's "Reading Lolita in Tehran" opened exclusively in NYC and Music Box Films' "Remake" premiered at Film Forum.

"Remake," a documentary by Ross McElwee, explores a personal and challenging subject, earning a 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film will expand to LA, Chicago, and Toronto. "The Floaters," a Jewish summer camp comedy, and the rerelease of Tsai Ming-Liang's "The Hole" also made their mark at the box office.
