Israeli Attacks in Gaza Strip: Rising Tensions and Tragic Consequences

Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals, including a 9-year-old girl, according to Palestinian health officials. The girl, Tala Abu Matar, was killed by Israeli gunfire at a tent encampment in central Gaza. Another airstrike at a metal foundry in Gaza City claimed the lives of four people. The Israeli military stated that it targeted "terrorist" infrastructure in the attacks.
The ceasefire established in October 2025 between Israel and Hamas has not prevented Israeli attacks that have led to the deaths of over 1,000 Palestinians since its implementation. In the same period, four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza. Recent violence coincides with Hamas leaders' visit to Cairo for discussions on the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan, which includes Hamas disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals.
Gaza's population of 2 million people, many of whom have been displaced multiple times, reside in cramped conditions under Hamas control. In a cross-border attack into Israel on October 7, 2023, Hamas-led fighters killed 1,200 individuals, as per Israeli reports. The Gaza health ministry reported over 73,000 Palestinian casualties in the territory since then.
