Empowering Voices: The Melissa Rucker Finishing Fund for Women and Nonbinary Filmmakers

Madison Wells Forward and The Chimaera Project have collaborated to introduce The Melissa Rucker Finishing Fund, a grant program designed to assist women and nonbinary filmmakers in completing their narrative and documentary projects. The fund is named in honor of Melissa Rucker, a former Madison Wells producer and executive known for her advocacy of underrepresented voices in the film, television, and theater industries. The program aims to continue Rucker's legacy by supporting bold storytellers whose perspectives deserve recognition and amplification.

The Melissa Rucker Finishing Fund targets filmmakers working on feature-length and short-form films in post-production, spanning various genres such as personal narrative, social commentary, action, speculative fiction, and science fiction. Selected recipients will receive financial grants, promotional support, screening opportunities, and access to industry resources through The Chimaera Project. Additionally, awardees will become part of The Chimaera Project Alumni Community, offering peer support, mentorship, and professional development resources.

The Chimaera Project, founded on the belief in the power of collective storytelling to drive social and cultural change, is thrilled to partner with Madison Wells Forward on this initiative. The program not only celebrates Melissa Rucker's legacy but also directly invests in and elevates filmmakers whose unique perspectives deserve greater visibility. Applications for the grant program will open on July 15 via FilmFreeway, with recipients set to be announced in November 2026.

Madison Wells Forward, the philanthropic arm of Gigi Pritzker's Madison Wells production company, has a history of supporting various organizations and initiatives, including City Year Los Angeles, Gold House, Diverso, Breaking the Binary, My Friend's Place, and Children and Screens. The Chimaera Project, established in 2014, has provided mentorship, funding, and professional development programs to over 1,500 participants, focusing on empowering women and nonbinary filmmakers.

The Melissa Rucker Finishing Fund is a testament to the commitment of Madison Wells Forward and The Chimaera Project to champion diverse voices in the film industry and honor the legacy of Melissa Rucker. By providing financial support, promotional opportunities, and access to resources, the fund aims to uplift filmmakers and their stories, ensuring that their perspectives are seen and heard. Through this collaboration, the organizations continue to advocate for inclusivity and representation in filmmaking, fostering a community of storytellers dedicated to making a meaningful impact.
