Joe Dean: From Grocery Delivery Driver to Open Championship Contender

Joe Dean, an English golfer, secured his spot in the 154th Open Championship by winning the Last Chance Qualifier at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. He shot a 2-under 68 to claim the final spot in the 156-man field. Dean's girlfriend, Emily, served as his caddie during the qualifier, and they are set to tie the knot on July 21. This will be Dean's third appearance in The Open, having previously competed in 2017 and 2024. He made a crucial eagle on the 14th hole to take control of the qualifier and ultimately clinch his spot in the prestigious tournament.
Dean's journey to professional golf was not conventional, as he worked as a grocery delivery driver for Morrison's during the COVID-19 pandemic to supplement his income. Despite the challenges, Dean embraced the experience and credits it with grounding him and providing valuable life lessons. Now a full-time member of the DP World Tour, Dean is grateful for the opportunity to compete at the highest level of the sport and is determined to make the most of every chance he gets to play in The Open.
