Rescue at Lonesome Lake: Hiker Saved in New Hampshire's White Mountains

A hiker in distress was rescued at Lonesome Lake in Lincoln, NH on July 11, 2026. Sandra McGuire, 56, from Norfolk, MA, experienced severe fatigue-like symptoms while hiking with friends. After spending two hours in a degraded state, a rescue effort was initiated due to concerns for her safety. Rescuers from the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team and NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to assist McGuire.

With the help of AMC personnel and her hiking companions, McGuire was able to start descending the Lonesome Lake Trail. Rescuers reached her at 6:00 p.m. about 0.8 miles above the trailhead. McGuire continued hiking with assistance and safely reached the trailhead at 7:05 p.m. She was evaluated and released by medics from Linwood Ambulance at the trailhead.
