Introducing Wonderloom Media: Elevating Creators in the New Media Landscape

Content Partners is expanding its presence in the creator economy by collaborating with media expert Ed Simpson to introduce Wonderloom Media. The goal of this initiative is to support promising creators in enhancing the scale and scope of their media endeavors. Wonderloom Media has kickstarted its operations by acquiring the renowned YouTube true-crime channel Dr. Insanity, which boasts over 5 million subscribers. With its roots as a creative rights acquisition platform established two decades ago, Content Partners is well-equipped to assist creators in assessing their true value across emerging and traditional media platforms. Simpson, a seasoned executive with producer and entrepreneur Brent Montgomery, has taken on the role of CEO at Wonderloom, spearheading this new venture.
The launch of Wonderloom was orchestrated by Content Partners' executive VP Scott Hemming and partner Alphonse Lordo. Hemming, who also serves as the CEO of the Content Partners-owned Revolution Studios library, emphasized the unique perspective gained from investing in content. By leveraging this expertise, the team aims to transform content libraries into active creator partnerships, facilitating the growth and expansion of top creators by providing hands-on support to develop high-quality, original programming during a pivotal moment for the industry.
Simpson's background at Wheelhouse, where he was involved in investing in emerging media and creators through an investment venture initiated by Montgomery in 2018, underscores his experience in this space. Having joined Montgomery's Leftfield Pictures production banner in 2012, Simpson played a key role in expanding the unscripted outfit's business through strategic acquisitions. Following ITV's acquisition of Leftfield in 2014, Simpson transitioned to an executive position at ITV America. His recent departure from Wheelhouse marked a new chapter as he embarked on leading Wonderloom, recognizing the evolution of the creator economy and the importance of supporting creators as they venture into diversified media enterprises.
Acknowledging the shifting landscape of the creator economy, Simpson highlighted the significance of Wonderloom's role in catering to the needs of creators as they navigate the expanding media landscape. The acquisition of Dr. Insanity, known for its captivating true crime content, signifies a strategic move for Wonderloom. With a strong editorial voice, a dedicated audience, and a proven storytelling approach, Dr. Insanity aligns with Wonderloom's vision of partnering with creators to elevate their content offerings. The collaboration between Content Partners and Wonderloom sets the stage for future partnerships with creators eager to elevate their content to new heights.
Legal counsel for Wonderloom was provided by Willkie Farr & Gallagher, while Paul Hastings represented Content Partners in this transaction. Dr. Insanity was advised by business management firm Night and law firm Baker & Hostetler. The combined expertise of these entities sets a solid foundation for Wonderloom's journey in supporting creators and fostering innovation in the evolving media landscape.
