USC's Rising Star: Jace Cannon's Journey to Becoming a Top Recruit in the 2027 Class

USC's 2027 recruiting class has seen some ups and downs in the national rankings, but one standout player is making waves. Jace Cannon, a tight end, committed to the Trojans after a spring visit in April, becoming the 10th member of the class. Initially rated as a three-star prospect by On3/Rivals and 247Sports, Cannon's ranking has since improved. On3/Rivals upgraded him to a four-star recruit, ranking him as the No. 12 tight end nationally and No. 23 in California. 247Sports still lists him as a three-star recruit but has moved him up in their rankings.

Cannon's rise in the rankings is well-deserved based on his performance during his junior season at Junipero Serra High School in California. With 29 receptions for 569 yards and three touchdowns, Cannon showcased his athleticism and receiving skills. Standing at 6-5 and 210 pounds, he is a versatile player who can line up at various positions on the field, utilizing his speed and route-running abilities to create mismatches. While he excels as a receiver, he can work on his blocking and physicality in the trenches, areas that can be developed at the collegiate level.

In USC's tight end group, Cannon joins a mix of experienced and up-and-coming players. Redshirt-senior Carson Tabaracci leads the group in experience, followed by redshirt junior Tucker Ashcraft and junior Josiah Jefferson. The incoming freshman, Mark Bowman, has generated excitement with his five-star status and potential impact as a true freshman. With Cannon as the lone tight end commit in his class, there is an opportunity for him to make an early impact and compete for playing time.

As USC continues to build its 2027 recruiting class, Cannon's commitment adds depth and talent to the tight end position. With the potential to graduate early and join the team in the spring, Cannon could have a head start in impressing the coaching staff and earning playing time.
