Respondents with a history of skin cancer were more likely to undergo regular dermatologic screenings, especially as they aged and had higher education levels and better health insurance coverage. Concern about skin cancer was particularly high among older individuals and those with previous diagnoses. When considering treatment options, patients prioritized factors like treatment effectiveness, side effects, and long-term outcomes over traditional physician recommendations, cost, and convenience.
The survey also revealed a strong preference for multiple treatment options, with most patients favoring nonsurgical treatments when outcomes were comparable. Patients expressed concerns about insurance limitations and emphasized the importance of collaborative decision-making between patients and physicians.
