Eyes of the World: The Jerry Garcia Experience Exhibition Tour
A new interactive exhibition dedicated to the life and legacy of Jerry Garcia is set to debut in San Francisco in early 2027 before embarking on a nationwide tour. Named "Eyes of the World: The Jerry Garcia Experience," the 40,000-square-foot exhibition will showcase Garcia's music, art, writings, and personal interests through eight immersive rooms, drawing inspiration from the 1973 Grateful Dead song of the same name.
The concept for the exhibition originated over 30 years ago when Garcia, along with author Ken Kesey and producer Cary Granat, envisioned a project that would combine animation, location-based experiences, and Garcia's philosophies on creativity, community, and individual freedom. Now, Granat, along with Garcia's daughter Keelin, wife Manasha, and a team of collaborators, is working to bring this vision to life in a way that honors Garcia's original intentions.
Visitors to the exhibition will journey through Garcia's early years in San Francisco, his contributions to music and sound technology, his visual art, philanthropic endeavors, and his passion for scuba diving and ocean conservation. A special section will transport guests back to 1966 Golden Gate Park and the vibrant Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.
Each visit will culminate in an evening performance by various Jerry Garcia tribute acts in an on-site music venue, providing a fitting tribute to the legendary musician. The exhibition will continue to evolve as new archival materials and elements are incorporated, offering a dynamic and engaging experience for attendees.
After its premiere in San Francisco, "Eyes of the World" is scheduled to travel to cities such as Chicago, Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles, although specific dates and ticketing details have yet to be announced. A portion of the exhibition's proceeds will support arts education, music programs, and environmental conservation initiatives through the Jerry Garcia Foundation, reflecting Garcia's commitment to these causes.
