Toronto Blue Jays Trade Daulton Varsho to Houston Astros for Spencer Arrighetti: A New Chapter for the Outfielder

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the final stages of a trade deal with the Houston Astros involving outfielder Daulton Varsho, as reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan. In return, the Astros will be sending starter Spencer Arrighetti to Toronto. Varsho, a 29-year-old centre fielder, has had a solid season, hitting .243 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 99 games. He is currently in the last year of arbitration and will become a free agent after the season concludes.

Varsho was acquired by the Blue Jays in a trade that sent top catching prospect Gabriel Moreno to the Arizona Diamondbacks before the 2023 season. Known for his stellar outfield play, Varsho earned a Gold Glove award in the 2024 season. Despite showing flashes of power with 65 career home runs, including 20 in just 71 games in 2025, Varsho struggled to consistently perform at a high level during his time with the Blue Jays.

Throughout his seven-year MLB career split between the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays, Varsho has maintained a .229 batting average with 106 home runs and 321 RBIs in 747 games. The trade to the Astros marks a new chapter for Varsho as he looks to contribute to his new team's success in the upcoming seasons.
