Former Army Private Indicted for Arson Attack on Jacob K. Javits Federal Building in NYC
A former Army private, Andrew Arrabaca, is facing charges for an arson attack at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building in New York City. The federal grand jury indicted him on a single count of arson for the dangerous incident that occurred last month. Arrabaca allegedly used a flammable liquid to start a fire at the federal building, threw a firework into the flames, and ignited more fireworks, causing harm to at least one person and putting others at risk, including federal employees and emergency responders.
Arrabaca has not yet entered a plea in response to the charges. The arraignment date has not been set at this time. Surveillance footage captured the attack on the federal building, showing a man wearing a helmet lighting fireworks, pouring gasoline on a stairwell, and firing a BB rifle before being subdued by a security guard. Federal prosecutors revealed that Arrabaca had been planning the attack since January, purchasing pellet guns, BB guns, and fireworks in preparation for the incident.
The investigation also uncovered that Arrabaca had considered other locations in the city before choosing the busy employee entrance at 26 Federal Plaza for the attack. The calculated and targeted nature of the incident raised concerns about the safety of federal employees, security guards, and emergency personnel in the building. The case against Arrabaca is ongoing, and further legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the charges brought against him.
