Freak Out!: 60th Anniversary Edition - A Comprehensive Look at Frank Zappa's Iconic Album
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Mothers of Invention's debut album Freak Out!, Frank Zappa's estate is releasing a deluxe reissue. The Freak Out!: 60th Anniversary Edition includes the LP's long-lost mono mix, unreleased 1966 performances, and other outtakes from the vault. The album, credited with inspiring the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's, will be available in three formats: a newly remastered stereo mix, a pre-master mix from 1966 tapes, and a full-album mono mix that was previously unavailable.
The reissue also features two additional discs with live performances from the Fillmore West in 1966, an early Freak Out! rehearsal tape, demos, vocal references, and other outtakes from the era. Zappa described "Freaking Out" as a process of breaking free from societal norms to creatively express oneself. The Freak Out!: 60th Anniversary Edition is available for pre-order in various formats, including a Super Deluxe 5CD/1Blu-ray, a 5LP version, and a 2LP multi-colored vinyl version, all accompanied by a litho print and a 26-page booklet with unseen photos and historical essays.
