New Brunswick's Green Future: Expanding Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and Emission Reduction Initiatives
New Brunswick is expanding its electric vehicle infrastructure with the addition of 16 new fast chargers to the eCharge network. The government is investing $5 million from the emissions reduction fund to install the chargers in underserved areas. The Energy Department will collaborate with NB Power to set up the new charging stations, including locations like République, Mactaquac, and Herring Cove provincial parks, enhancing the visitor experience.
In addition to the fast chargers, the province is allocating $955,000 to grow its electric vehicle fleet and establish three regional charging hubs in Moncton, Saint John, and Miramichi. These initiatives are part of the 72 projects supported by New Brunswick's Climate Change Fund, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote a greener economy. Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage emphasized the importance of the fund in achieving emission reduction targets and transitioning to a net-zero economy by 2050.
