Dennis Coath: From ITV Reporter to Bestselling Author - The Band That Time Forgave
Dennis Coath, a former Midlands ITV reporter, is celebrating the success of his latest novel, The Band That Time Forgave, the second installment in his trilogy about an aging rock band. The book tells the fictional story of The Dogs, a veteran group that unexpectedly rises to global fame, even outselling The Beatles. Critics have praised the novel, with BBC Films calling it "dynamic" and BNN America stating that the stories "have turned heads."
Having reported on numerous stories in Wolverhampton, including extensive coverage of Wolves, Dennis also played a role in launching the Sports Journalism course at the University of Wolverhampton. The Band That Time Forgave follows the first novel in the series, The Band That Time Forgot, published in 2024. The final book, The Band That Turned Back Time, is set to be released later this year.
Inspired by legendary artists like The Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney, The Who, and Sir Rod Stewart, whom he saw perform in clubs during the 1960s, Dennis drew on his experiences to create the trilogy. Throughout his journalism career, he had the opportunity to interview icons such as Sir Rod, Elton John, and Robbie Williams. In addition to his fiction writing, Dennis earned a master's degree in history in his seventies and is working on a historical novel about 1066, scheduled for release next year.
Apart from his solo projects, Dennis has collaborated with England cricketer Ian Botham and former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton on co-authored books. He has also authored "Rats, Pies, and Pigeon Poo," a guide for aspiring young journalists. Notably, Dennis founded The World's Biggest Liar Competition, an annual event held in Cumbria, emphasizing that the competition is indeed based on truth.
