Meet Richard Haddad: The Detroit Lions' New President and CEO
The Detroit Lions have appointed Richard Haddad as their new President and CEO, effective early September. Haddad will oversee both football and business operations for the Lions, working closely with the team's board of directors to shape the future direction of the organization. Sheila Hamp, the Lions' Principal Owner and Chair, expressed excitement about Haddad's leadership qualities and his understanding of managing a sports franchise in Detroit.
Haddad, a Michigan native and sports business executive, brings 14 years of experience from his tenure with Pistons Sports & Entertainment and the Detroit Pistons, where he currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer. His responsibilities at PSE included overseeing business operations, business affairs, and development for the Pistons, as well as collaborating with basketball operations. Haddad played a key role in significant initiatives such as the Pistons' move back to Detroit and the development of the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center.
With a background in law and experience in strategic partnerships, Haddad is eager to lead the Lions organization and build on the foundation laid by the current leadership team. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Lions and emphasized his commitment to delivering results for fans and the community. Haddad's appointment follows an extensive national search process led by a Lions committee and the global leadership advisory firm Russell Reynolds.
As Haddad transitions from the Pistons to the Lions, Rod Wood, the outgoing Lions President and CEO, will provide support during the handover period. Wood, who announced his retirement earlier this year, will assist Haddad in getting acclimated to his new role.
