Tragic Road Rage Incident in Delaware: Motorcyclist Fatally Shot in Altercation
A tragic road rage incident in Delaware resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. William Simpler Jr., 28, is accused of shooting and killing Jason Paoletti, 46, during the altercation. The incident took place on August 4, 2026, in Newark, Delaware, when Paoletti was riding his motorcycle behind a Hyundai Elantra on Salem Church Road and Old Baltimore Pike.
Following a confrontation at a red light, Simpler, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, engaged in an argument with Paoletti. The situation escalated when Paoletti reached into his saddlebag, prompting Simpler to pull out a gun and fatally shoot him. The Hyundai fled the scene, leaving Paoletti critically injured. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
After identifying Simpler as the suspect, detectives apprehended him at his residence. Simpler has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during a felony. He is currently held on a $1.5 million cash bond at the Delaware Department of Correction.
