World Soundtrack Awards 2022: Nominees for Film and Television Composer of the Year Revealed
The 26th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards will feature nominees for Film Composer of the Year, including Jonny Greenwood, Alexandre Desplat, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Daniel Pemberton, and Max Richter. Greenwood's tense orchestrations for "One Battle After Another" showcase his signature style, while Desplat reinvented John Williams motifs for "Jurassic World Rebirth" and crafted symphonic scores for other films. Guðnadóttir's atmospheric soundscapes in "Joker" and "Chernobyl" highlight her versatility, while Pemberton blends traditional orchestration with unconventional soundscapes. Richter seamlessly fuses emotional orchestration with contemporary electronics in his work.
The Television Composer of the Year nominees include David Fleming for "Widow's Bay," Finneas O'Connell for "Beef" Season 2, Martin Phipps and Benji Merrison for "Steal," Dave Porter for "Pluribus," and Jeff Russo for various projects. The Best Original Song category features nominees like Kim Eun-jae and Mark Sonnenblick for "Golden" from "KPop Demon Hunters," Charli XCX and John Cale for "House" from "Wuthering Heights," Stephen Schwartz for "No Place Like Home" from "Wicked: For Good," Hildur Guðnadóttir and Nia DaCosta for "Stolen Tale" from "Hedda," and Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner for "Train Dreams" from "Train Dreams."
The World Soundtrack Awards will announce the second wave of nominations for Discovery of the Year, Public Choice Award, Game Music Award, and Belgian Film Composer of the Year on September 3. The event will honor Trevor Jones with the Lifetime Achievement Award and recognize young composers like Xabier Doural García, Lidia Pozo Perez, and Yeakun Yoo for their original compositions.
