Meta has signed a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy to purchase nuclear power, with the tech giant set to buy 1.1 gigawatts of energy from Constellation’s Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois starting in June 2027. The deal will support the continued operation and relicensing of the plant, which was at risk of closing without Meta's commitment. The agreement, which will also expand the plant's output by 30 megawatts, marks Meta's first official foray into nuclear energy and contributes to the company's goal of 100% clean electricity for its data centers. The partnership between tech giants and the nuclear industry is growing, with companies like Google and Amazon also making significant investments in nuclear power to meet their energy needs and support sustainability goals.
