He was angry when FEMA canceled a grant program that would have provided $40 million for a new flood control system in Central, where he is the mayor. The program, known as BRIC, was cut by the Trump administration, affecting storm-prone communities, including many that supported Trump in the 2024 election. Evans and other officials are urging the administration to reinstate the program to help vulnerable communities prepare for future disasters.
