Major U.S. insurers have agreed to speed up and reduce prior authorizations, a process that can cause delays and denials in care. The insurers aim to connect patients to care more quickly and reduce administrative burdens on providers. The changes will benefit 257 million Americans and include establishing a common standard for electronic prior authorization requests by 2027. Plans will also reduce the types of claims subject to prior authorization requests by 2026.
