U2 guitarist The Edge has celebrated a "monumental day" after officially becoming an Irish citizen. Born in England to Welsh parents, he moved to Ireland at a young age. The Edge was among 7,500 people granted Irish citizenship in a ceremony in Killarney, Co Kerry. He expressed pride in his country and its leadership, highlighting U2's history of activism through their music. The band recently received an academy fellowship at the Ivors award ceremony in London.
