Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents recently made the highest number of arrests in at least five years, detaining around 30,000 immigrants last month. However, the number of deportations in June, totaling over 18,000, fell short of the arrest figures. The discrepancy between arrests and deportations is attributed to challenges in deporting immigrants with pending asylum cases or orders blocking their removal. The Trump administration has been averaging around 14,700 deportations per month since February, significantly lower than the peak of 36,000 monthly deportations during the Obama administration in 2013. Overcrowding in ICE facilities has been reported, with nearly 60,000 immigrants detained despite funding for 41,500 beds.
