Toronto-born global music icon Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye received the key to the city from Mayor Olivia Chow in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to music, philanthropy, and culture in Toronto. The honor was bestowed following his four sold-out shows at the Rogers Centre, with July 26-27, 2025, declared as “The Weeknd Weekend” in the city. The Weeknd, who rose from Scarborough to worldwide fame, expressed pride in receiving the key and emphasized his commitment to helping the next generation find their voice. Known for his influential music and philanthropic efforts, The Weeknd joins a select group of notable recipients of Toronto’s highest honor.
