A coalition of 22 Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia has filed a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from defunding Planned Parenthood. The lawsuit argues that the provision, which temporarily prohibits Medicaid reimbursement for certain health care services at Planned Parenthood health centers, is illegal and unconstitutional. The states claim that the measure would disrupt preventative care, increase healthcare costs, and disproportionately affect women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and communities of color. The lawsuit comes after a federal judge in Boston expanded her block on enforcing the provision in a separate lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood.
